The first meeting of the G20 Development Working Group (DWG) under Turkey’s G20 Presidency was held in Istanbul on 2-3 February 2015. Representatives of G20 members, invited countries and international organizations attended the meeting.
2015 offers an important opportunity to take forward the global development agenda. Therefore, Turkey has placed development at the center of its G20 agenda.
Turkey’s G20 Sherpa Ambassador Ayşe Sinirlioğlu attended the opening of the DWG meeting and presented Turkish Presidency priorities to the members.
In the first DWG meeting, G20 members extended their broad support to Turkey’s G20 development agenda priorities. In 2015, Turkey aims to take forward the ongoing G20 development agenda under the following five priority areas.
- Infrastructure
- Domestic Resource Mobilization
- Human Resource Development
- Financial Inclusion and Remittances
- Food Security and Nutrition
In the DWG meeting, participants discussed matters related to progressing the G20 development agenda under the five priority areas. Turkey’s proposal to initiate new work on enhancing the role of the private sector in development from the viewpoint of inclusive business was also discussed.
In addition, the DWG members exchanged views on enhancing policy coherence with G20 Investment and Infrastructure Working Group and Employment Working Group on related agenda items.
G20 Agriculture Experts also met on 2 February 2015 in Istanbul to discuss issues related to the G20 Agriculture Ministers meeting planned to be held in May.
