Xi Jinping Attends 2nd Session of 10th G20 Summit, Expounding Overall Thinking and Vision of 2016 G20 Summit in China

On 16 November 2015 local time, the 10th G20 Summit proceeded in Antalya, Turkey. President Xi Jinping attended the event and delivered a speech, announcing that China will host the 2016 G20 Summit and briefing the overall thinking and vision of the Summit next year.

Xi Jinping pointed out that China will host the 11th G20 Summit from September 4 to 5 next year in Hangzhou. Based on the current situation and the expectations of parties concerned, China has formulated the theme of the 2016 Summit as “Towards an Innovative, Invigorated, Interconnected and Inclusive World Economy”. The Chinese side will take forward the preparatory work for the Summit in four key areas, including transforming growth patterns in innovative ways, improving global economic and financial governance, promoting global trade and investment and promoting inclusive and interconnected development.

Xi Jinping emphasized that the G20 belongs to each and every one of its members. China will consistently follow an open, transparent and inclusive approach, and strengthen communication and coordination with all other members to jointly uphold, strengthen and develop the G20. It is believed that the 2016 Summit will present a unique setting where history meets modernity.

Leaders at the session voiced support for China in hosting the 2016 G20 Summit and all agreed on the theme and preparatory focuses of the summit put forward by China. They also exchanged views on topics like reform of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), tax revenue, anti-corruption, international trade and energy, and called on all parties concerned to implement the IMF reform plan as soon as possible.

Regarding the IMF reform, Xi Jinping stressed that the goal of the IMF reform is to increase the representation and voices of the emerging markets and developing countries. The Chinese side welcomes the IMF’s suggestion in a recent report on the inclusion of RMB into its Special Drawing Rights (SDR) basket of currencies.

Concerning anti-corruption, Xi Jinping underlined that China insists on fighting against all corruption, adopts an attitude of “zero-tolerance” toward corruption, and strengthens international cooperation in anti-corruption. China supports the G20 in stepping up international practical cooperation in tracking down fugitives and recovering their illegal assets.

The Summit concluded on the same day with the issue of the G20 Antalya Summit Communiqué and Statement on Counter-Terrorism of the G20 Antalya Summit.
