The C20 Summit was held in Istanbul on September 15-16 with the participation of 450 delegates from more than 50 countries. Organisations from 91 countries from around the world, representing close to 500 civil society organisations and almost 5,000 individuals, have been working together for the last 18 months via the Civil 20 (C20) to engage with G20 governments on some of the critical issues facing today’s world.
This year the C20 identified four issues of key concern: Inclusive Growth, Gender Equality, Governance (with a focus on International Taxation and Anti-Corruption) and Sustainability. Four C20 working groups corresponding to these issues developed policy recommendations, which were refined through further national and international consultations, and finalized at the C20 Summit. Deputy Prime Minister Cevdet Yılmaz, former Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan and Turkey’s G20 Sherpa Ambassador Ayşe Sinirlioğlu attended the final session of the Summit to receive the Communiqué on behalf of the Presidency and to respond to the C20 recommendations. Deputy Prime Minister Yılmaz expressed appreciation for the C20’s hard work and their valuable recommendations, which are very relevant to the G20 agenda this year. C20 Turkish Presidency and C20 participants representing over 500 civil society organizations from 91 countries contributed to the success of this Summit.
