Press Conference by President Obama – Antalya, Turkey

Press Conference by President Obama – Antalya, Turkey

Kaya Palazzo Resort Antalya, Turkey PRESIDENT OBAMA: Good afternoon. Let me begin by thanking President Erdogan and the people of Antalya and Turkey for their outstanding work in hosting this G20 Summit. Antalya is beautiful. The hospitality of the Turkish people is legendary. To our Turkish friends — çok teşekkürler. (Laughter.) I’ve been practicing that. At the G20, our focus was on how to get the global economy growing faster and creating more jobs for our people. And I’m pleased that we agreed that growth has to be inclusive to address the rising inequality around the world. Given growing cyber threats, we committed to a set of norms — drafted by the United States — for how governments should conduct themselves in cyberspace, including a commitment not to engage in the cyber theft of intellectual property for commercial gain. And as we head into global climate talks, all G20...

Joint press briefing of President Tusk and President Juncker

Joint press briefing of President Tusk and President Juncker

Remarks by President Donald Tusk ahead of the G20 summit in Antalya We are all shocked by the attacks in Paris, so excuse me if I repeat some messages but I want to be clear. This cannot be just another summit. Friday night in Paris the peoples of the free world were attacked by terrorists. We all expressed our solidarity but words are not enough. Today, it is time to act. I have spoken to President Hollande who was clear that France expects deeds. We therefore call on all G20 leaders to show full determination in our fight against terror. Here at the G20 we have a special responsibility. There is no better forum in which to address terrorist financing. Terror networks cannot plan or operate without the money that moves through the financial systems of many countries. Only if we fully cooperate on exchange of information about suspicious...

Secretary-General’s press conference at G20 Summit in Turkey [with Q&A]

Secretary-General’s press conference at G20 Summit in Turkey [with Q&A]

Good morning, ladies and gentlemen, I thank Turkey for hosting this important meeting of the G20. Let me start by reiterating my profound condolences to the people of France following the barbaric terrorist attacks in Paris on Friday night. My thoughts are with the families of the victims at this time of grief and loss. Terrorists continue to commit atrocious acts across the world. Their inhumanity is clear; their ideologies are bankrupt. No grievance or cause can justify such violence. Those who claim to be acting in the name of religion are only harming their religion. Terrorism is a threat to all humankind. As we have seen over the years with grim regularity, no country, and no city, nobody is immune. In the past four days alone, horrendous terrorist bombings have also killed dozens of people in Beirut and Baghdad. It is heartbreaking to see so many families, communities...

Good morning and welcome. This has been an important summit. Five years ago, at the first G20 I attended as Prime Minister, the focus was on economic security. Today, the focus is national security. How we can work together. …to tackle the threat from terrorism… …to bring an end to the conflict in Syria… …and to deal with the long term threats to our security such as climate change. Let me say a few words on each. Terrorism First, terrorism. The horrific attacks in Paris on Friday night… …so soon after the Russian airline disaster, and following on from the Ankara bombings and the attacks in Tunisia and the attacks in Lebanon. …underline the threat we all face. A threat to our values and our way of life. …and a threat that we must defeat, together. Here at this summit, we have agreed to take further important steps. …to...

President Putin’s Press Conference

President Putin’s Press Conference

President of Russia Vladimir Putin: Good evening, friends, ladies and gentlemen, Before we start these questions and answers, I want to thank the President of Turkey, Mr Erdogan, and all of our Turkish colleagues for the very professional organisation of the G20 summit. They created a very good, trusting and open atmosphere in which to work and discuss the issues that were the whole point of our getting together. I want to thank Turkey’s people for their welcoming attitude to our work and the help that we received at practically every step. Question: It would seem that fighting terrorism was one of the summit’s main subjects of discussion. We know that there will be no resolving this problem unless we take more effective steps to prevent the financing of terrorism. Were any concrete measures discussed at the summit? What was the line of discussion on these measures, and did you reach any agreements? Vladimir Putin: Yes, of course, this issue was one of the key issues, the fight against terrorism, especially after the tragic events with the hostage taking and loss of life in Paris. Yes, of course we are well aware that we must cut off the channels used...
