The G20 Turkish Presidency convenes high-level event on inclusive business at international development financing conference

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 14 July 2015 – On the margins of the Third International Conference on Financing for Development, Turkey, as holder of the G20 Presidency, convened business leaders, senior representatives of multilateral organizations and other high-level participants, to highlight the role of inclusive business in contributing to sustainable development. This event is in the lead-up to the upcoming United Nations Summit in September where world leaders will adopt the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The event was organized in collaboration with the Coalition for Dialogue on Africa (CoDA), the World Bank Group, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Business-20 and Think-20. The “G20 Workshop Silver Economy and Active Ageing” was held in Rome on June 24, 2015. The workshop was organized jointly with the Turkish G20 Presidency and the Italian Government. Representatives of G20 members, social partners, international organizations and academia participated in the event. Participants of the workshop expressed their opinions and exchanged views on the issue of ageing, which has turned out to be one of the important and widespread global problems. G20 Sherpas and Finance Deputies met in Bodrum for Mid-Year Review

Finance Deputies and Sherpas of G20 members met at a joint session in Bodrum on June 16, 2015 to review the progress achieved in the 2015 G20 agenda and discuss the next steps for the remainder of the year. As the first half of Turkey’s G20 Presidency term was completed, the joint meeting, along with the G20 Finance Deputies and G20 Sherpas Meetings, provided members a timely opportunity to assess the progress and set out the work program for the second half of the year with a view to ensuring a coherent effort from Finance and Sherpa tracks. Third G20 Sherpa Meeting Held in Bodrum

G20 Sherpas held their third meeting under the Turkish Presidency in Bodrum on 16-17 June 2015. The Turkish Presidency presented the expected outcomes for the Antalya Leaders’ Summit under each workstream to Sherpas and received their feedback. Sherpas also came together with G20 Finance Deputies in a Joint Session for a midterm review of the Turkish Presidency and to discuss the G20 inclusiveness agenda. At their third meeting, Sherpas had discussions on employment with an emphasis to address inequalities and tackle youth unemployment, on development with an emphasis on G20 Action Plan on Food Security and strengthening the link between the G20 and Low Income Developing Countries (LIDCs), on energy with a particular focus on the agenda of the upcoming G20 Energy Ministers Meeting and on trade with a particular focus on the upcoming G20 Trade Ministers Meeting. G20 Finance and Central Bank Deputies Met in Bodrum for Mid-Term Evaluation

G20 Finance and Central Bank Deputies held their fourth meeting under the Turkish Presidency on June 15-16, 2015 in Bodrum, Turkey. Halfway through the Turkish Presidency, Deputies have made a mid-term evaluation of the G20 agenda towards the Antalya Summit. As such, Deputies have elaborated on the progress until June and the potential outcomes to be delivered by the Antalya Summit. During the meeting, there have been stimulating discussions in the areas of global economy, framework for strong, sustainable and balanced growth, investment and infrastructure, financial regulation, international tax, IMF reform and climate change finance. Third Meeting of the G20 Development Working Group held in Izmir

The third meeting of the G20 Development Working Group (DWG) under Turkey’s G20 Presidency was held in Izmir on 4-5 June 2015. The principal objective of the third DWG Meeting in Izmir was to register further progress on the outcomes that the DWG will deliver this year, and in particular to discuss how the ongoing work would translate into concrete results that would be submitted for the consideration of G20 Leaders at the Antalya Summit in November. In this regard, DWG members had productive discussions on the priority work areas, namely Domestic Resource Mobilisation, Financial Inclusion and Remittances, Food Security and Nutrition, Human Resource Development and Infrastructure. G20, Global Forum on Migration and Development and the Global Migration Group Joint Meeting took place in Izmir

A joint event of the G20, Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD), and the Global Migration Group (GMG) took place in Izmir on 3 June 2015, at the margins of the third G20 Development Working Group meeting. The joint event was hosted by the Government of Turkey, concurrent Chair of the G20 and GFMD for 2015. During the meeting, participants from governments and international organizations explored options for possible synergies between G20 development work and the GFMD process. Particular focus was placed on reducing remittances transfer costs. Participants welcomed this initial meeting to discuss options for cooperation and dialogue between the G20 and the GFMD process. Third Meeting of Framework Working Group held in Rome

The Third Meeting of G20 Framework Working Group (FWG) took place on May 28-29, 2015 in Rome, Italy. Representatives of G20 members, invited countries and international organizations exchanged views on global economic outlook and challenges leading up to the Third Meeting of G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors in September. The Group assessed the first draft of members’ Adjusted Growth Strategies in line with the recent challenges and potential risks to the global economy. In addition, representatives evaluated the progress of implementation of the commitments in Growth Strategies, and discussed whether G20 is on track to achieve common objective of additional 2 percent global growth by 2018. The 2nd Investment and Infrastructure Working Group (IIWG) meeting under the Turkish G20 Presidency was held in Singapore on May 25-26, 2015. The IIWG members noted the progress on the G20 investment agenda of 2015 since the last IIWG meeting held on January 29-30, 2015 in Ankara.
